The District Record is a compiled reference on the people who run America's public schools, built from court filings, agency records, and clearly attributed news reporting. Here is exactly how we build it and what each label means.
Parents across the country send their children into buildings run by people they have never had reason to look up. Public officials working in public schools generate a public record, and most of that record is scattered across county courthouses, agency dockets, and local news archives that most parents will never find. The District Record collects it in one place, names the source for every claim, and updates it when new filings surface. We do this because the alternative is that parents find out the hard way, after the fact, from a neighbor or a headline.
We start with primary records: court filings, agency findings, arrest records, and official dockets. When a matter is known only through news reporting, we say so by name and we do not upgrade it to something it is not. Every item on a subject's page carries one of three labels. Verified means a court or agency record supports it directly. Pending means a charge or complaint has been filed and has not been resolved. Reported means the claim comes from news reporting we have not yet confirmed against a primary record, and it stays marked that way until we can. An accusation is not a conviction, and we do not write as if it were.
Anyone named in this publication may write to us and answer the record directly. If we get a fact wrong, we correct it and we say what changed. If a document changes the picture, we update the entry rather than leave it stale. Corrections go to corrections@thedistrictrecord.com and every request is reviewed against the underlying record, not against how it makes anyone look.
We publish in the public interest, and we are not neutral about what that means: children come first. That said, the facts and our opinion of them are two different things, and we keep them visibly separate on every page. The compiled record is the record. The Editorial section is our read of it, labeled as such, and open to challenge. We are not a courtroom and we do not decide guilt. We are a place where the paperwork that already exists gets put in front of the people it concerns.
